Seoul, Jan 02 2007 – LG Electronics, a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, has officially embarked on a new era of executive leadership. Mr. Yong Nam, who is starting his tenure as the new Vice Chairman and CEO effective January 1, 2007, shared his vision with employees through the company’s New Year’s message.

Mr. Nam declared LG Electronics’ vision of becoming a global top three player in all of its business areas, as defined in terms of revenue, market share, profitability, growth rate and shareholder returns. He added, however, that there was one area where LG Electronics should be at the very top, and not just one of the top three: people. Mr. Nam also said, “Through these efforts, LG Electronics will be eventually the best company in the world, which is our ultimate goal.”

To achieve this goal, Mr. Nam emphasized the theme of value creation for shareholders, customers and employees. He encouraged employees to be more strategic and result-oriented, and to change to a customer- and market-focused mindset. Mr. Nam also vowed to make LG Electronics a more inspirational working place that attracts more top global talent.

LG Electronics earlier announced the appointments of several new key executives, effective January 1, 2007, including the appointment of Mr. Nam as the new CEO of LG Electronics. Other major appointments are two new business unit CEOs, new CFO, new Head of Korea Sales & Marketing Operations and 26 other executives.

These changes signify LG Electronics’ effort to continue to enhance the global presence of the LG brand and to maximize profitable growth. The newly-appointed officers are expected to achieve the improved results for the organization in terms of business performance; in particular, LG Electronics will focus on securing profitable and sustainable growth in the mobile handset and display sectors.

Under the leadership of Mr. Nam, known for his strategic outlook, in-depth IT industry experience and global perspective, LG Electronics is expected to move to new heights, becoming a highly profitable technology leader with strong brand power. Mr. Nam has more than 30 years of experience in LG Electronics, LG Corporation and LG Telecom. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Head of Strategic Business of LG Corporation, working on strategic business initiatives and directly supporting LG’s Chairman, Mr. Bon-Moo Koo. He also served as Chief Executive Officer and Director of LG Telecom from October 1998 through May 2006, during which time he oversaw the company’s rapid transformation into a highly profitable organization.
